AAC2017 Legacy:
Going far beyond the boundaries of Bhubaneswar

The Kalinga Stadium will be a testimony to the fact that when commitment and determination fuel the pursuit of a dream, even limited time is not a hurdle. The Odisha Government, led by the dynamic Chief Minister Hon’ble Mr Naveen Patnaik, took Project AAC2017 on a war-footing and delivered a world class facility that the competitors will cherish performing in.

For a State that has produced top notch track and field athletes like Rachita Panda Mistry, Anuradha Biswal, Purnima Hembram, Dutte Chand, Srabani Nanda and Amiya Kumar Mallick, to name a few, the Kalinga Stadium and its two tracks will come as a boon. Bhubaneswar can emerge as a wonderful training hub for many naturally gifted Odiya athletes in the future.

One of the fastest growing State economies of the country has embraced sport as an ambassador to spread its message. AAC2017 is the biggest sporting initiative Odisha has undertaken to not out reach out to those beyond its geographical boundaries but also within, affording its diverse people the opportunity to embrace sport even more.

There can be no doubt that AAC2017 has already touched the lives of several thousands of Odiyas, generating employment and contributing to the State’s economic development. Besides, the hundreds of volunteers who will help deliver AAC2017 will take great learnings from the event and, in their own way, will help Odisha to further realise its potential.

By naming Olly, the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle as its mascot, AAC2017 has already drawn the masses attention to the endangered species of turtles which cross thousands of miles in the ocean to nest in the beaches of Odisha each year. Olly’s association with the massive sporting event will only bolster the efforts to spread the message of conservation.

Come to think of it, the Legacy of AAC20017 will go beyond Kalinga Stadium and the Bhubaneswar city as well as Odisha’s limit. It will leave a lasting impact on the rest of India and Asia’s athletes, established and young. AAC2017 will imbibe the pursuit of excellence of in the minds of the competitors.
